Coincidentally Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year fall on the same date this year. I wasn’t always happy to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but something changed in college. Sure, it might be a holiday created by Hallmark, and expressions of love through flowers and candy might appear trite, but when I celebrate Valentine’s Day, I see it as a day about all kinds of love – not just the romantic one. I count my blessings in the form of family and friends who I was able to love and who loved me. So wherever you are, whether you’re married, engaged, dating, or single, you all have someone special this day – someone you can love and tell them that you love them today, and it does not have to be a significant other.
I leave you with my ma po tofu. We held an informal Chinese New Year’s dinner and it was delicious.
