Since there was some interest, I am taking assistants and possibly one more second shooter for 2010! Gigs are available only if there is a demand, but please apply so that you can be considered. Some details:

Second Shooter

Description

- If hired, shoot on-location with me for weddings, with particular focus on groom’s side when getting ready, capturing different angles during ceremony and reception, assisting with portrait sessions
- Have both an artistic and photojournalistic eye – shooting in a style similar to me is preferred
- Have a warm, energic, people-oriented personality. Ability to perform under pressure, customer service-focused
- Our relationship will be collaborative. Beyond shooting, we will work to critique, edit, and sharpen your portfolio and editing skills
- Rates are set based on portfolio strength

Requirements

- Not open to hobbyists. You must have the intention to eventually make money from photography (whether freelance or full-time)
- At least 1 wedding experience is preferred (either as an amateur or second shooter) or have a strong portfolio.
- Have assisted Shang on at least one photo gig – if you’ve never assisted before, you will have the opportunity to do so if your application is accepted
- A professional digital SLR system is required – at least a body and one non-kit lens. A flash is preferred, but not required. Nikon systems are preferred
- Have advanced understanding of composition, lighting, and exposure
- Have a passion for online social media – second shooters are preferred to be familiar with Facebook, blogging, and Twitter
- Passionate and ambitious, teamwork-oriented
- Punctual, preferably early. Professional and responsible – I prefer getting replies to emails and phone calls within 24 hours under normal circumstances
- Boston area only

Assistant

Description

- Shadow Shang on both non-wedding and wedding gigs, hold equipment, observe and learn
- Have a detail-oriented eye, be able to help remove distracting elements
- Have a warm, energic, people-oriented personality
- Unpaid

Requirements

- Must have high interest to expand into paid photography work or have a dedicated passion for photographing on a regular basis
- Owning or planning to own a professional digital SLR system
- Have rudimentary understanding of photography, and be ready to learn a lot
- Passionate and ambitious, but ultimately, teamwork-oriented
- Punctual, preferably early. Professional and responsible – I prefer getting replies to emails and phone calls within 24 hours under normal circumstances
- Boston area only
