Emma and Jason, Engaged! My first Chicago couple

When Emma and Jason first met each other, it wasn’t pretty – they literally ran into each other during a soccer game. Well, it happened more than once, and the rest is history. Emma, who is a fellow Harvard alum, is currently studying a bunch of cool stuff in London as a Marshall Scholar (and incidentally knows one of my good friends from high school, hi Kuong!) while Jason is continuing his Ph.D. in physics at Harvard. Jason’s roots are in Chicago. So in a way these two encompass my two cities!

This also marks the debut of my 2011 couples – Emma and Jason are my very first booked Chicago wedding, I really look forward to photographing them next fall at the Signature Room at the John Hancock Tower in downtown Chicago!

We chose the De Cordova sculpture park in Lincoln, MA for their engagement session – we wanted a place where we could have lots of fun!

I’d been lucking out with gorgeous weather for several sessions… Emma was only in town for a week so rescheduling wasn’t really an option

Emma and Jason epitomize what makes a great Shang Chen Photography couple – first, they’re not afraid to take a creative risk when it comes their photos. Second, they’re not afraid to be themselves and have open smiles – I love it when people show their teeth when they smile – the ones who don’t worry  me, like seriously, I am worried.
And third, they’re ridiculously, melt-your-face cute!

My original idea was to squish them into one of this sculpture’s armpits… didn’t quite work. Thanks guys for giving me a laugh!
