How far in advance do you book?
For popular peak season dates, 12 – 18 months. For the last 2 years, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend was the first to go! If you have a Saturday wedding in the months of May – October, that is considered peak season in New England and Chicago.
I don’t was super posed photographs, but I also want to look beautiful
I get this all the time. The way I “pose” my couples is considered much closer to artistic direction. I also typically provide upfront tips on ways to stand and sit that will emphasize your best features, lessen awkwardness, and you’ll understand it when you have your engagement session with me. I want you to look natural, and the emotions are real, but I also want to flatter you and make sure I capture your best side =)
Do I really need an engagement session?
Without a doubt, couples who have had an engagement session with me are much more relaxed in front of the camera on the wedding day. Most all of my clients, before they met me, have never been professionally photographed together! Like a hair and makeup trial, like a rehearsal, photography doesn’t just happen, it takes time to develop a relationship with your photographer. An engagement session can only help you, so much that I now include it standard in my wedding coverage. Plus, it’s a great way to get photos in casual clothing for save the dates, your wedding website, and just for home decor!
But what if I am in a long distance relationship or live in a different city from you?
I have traveled to do engagement sessions before, we will make it work. In 2011 alone, I accommodated engagement session for 7 couples who were not able to do local engagement sessions. You invest so much in photography, you want to make sure that on your wedding day, it’s not the first time you are photographed by me.
What if I just get another friend or another photographer to do my engagement session?
That is fine if you want to get more sessions, but the point of the engagement session is to work with me. Thus, I still require that you have a session with me regardless of whether you’ll be photographed by other people prior to your wedding.
