Carolina’s girls | Boston children photographer

Let’s go back… back to the heat of the summer, when the air smelled sweet, when children rolled in the grass… I met up with the talented Carolina, of From Hair to Eternity, to photograph her and her adorable daughters (who are not twins, but look so much alike!). Many of my brides have had the pleasure of knowing Carolina… this woman does not let anything in life get her down, she is such a positive presence. I miss you!

By the way, Carolina went all out for this shoot – LOVE IT! We had lots of fun playing with lots of accessories, outfits, toys, etc

Um and I love the fact that they brought their adorable puppy, Cookie!

Backyard family session

We take a break from white frocks and kisses to bring you this incredible backyard family session! For a limited time I offered some lifestyle sessions over the summer as well. And we didn’t go very far! “A”, the little boy, just recently turned one, and for kids who are that young I recommend traveling to the family home rather than going elsewhere. It is my belief that kids are most comfortable in places in which they’re familiar. Though we have Jessica and Hemant in some of these photos, Jessica let me spend some alone time with the kids as well. I love that, I think when I get to chat with “I” she really opened to me and in turn made “A” a very happy baby!

Do you see these diapers? They’re jean-colored! That just blew my mind. Wow the things they have for kids these days…

If you met Jessica, you’ll find she has an amazing sense of humor and wit. She is one cool mom

Fall session with M | Boston Children Photographer

I’m really glad that the slight chill snap in the middle of this month did not claim little M! She had some sniffles, but true to her nature, she smiled throughout our entire session. Major major props to her Daddy for driving us all around town to get great outdoor shots!

This is one of the first shots that really jumped out at me. It was a really candid moment inside M’s room. I think there’s a certain painting-like quality to the light

This smile makes me melt!

Her outfit had bunny ears and a bright pink lining. Need I say more?

I think every parent should do something like this on a shoot. It’s a surefire way to get a smile! The suspension bridge is pretty cool too

There was 40% chance of showers that day but they all happened in the morning… I considered myself really lucky that I can get THIS kind of golden light

We also had time to drive to a playground with lots of bright things!

Photographer’s note – the quality of the blurry background is called “bokeh”. To best achieve this kind of photograph, invest in prime lenses – lenses that do not zoom so that you can shoot with a wide aperture to get this effect. I shot mostly with a 50mm f/1.8 (very affordable lens and great for portraits!) and a 85mm f/1.8 (my personal favorite, but it is more zoomed so you can’t get a very wide shot). However, I did not remain at f/1.8 most of the time (each lens has a sweet spot where the focus is the most sharp and it’s usually not at 1.8). I chose f/2.2 for most of these because I wanted sharp images AND great bokeh, shot in manual mode, metered for the skin and then dialed the shutter speed accordingly
