Back in December 2008 when I purchased shangchenphoto.com, all I knew was that I enjoyed taking photographs of people. I didn’t necessarily set out a goal to be a wedding photographer, an engagement photographer, or lifestyle photographer, or any particular kind of photographer… well, let’s put it another way, I wanted to capture real moments and real personalities, and whatever opportunities came that fit that goal, I took them. Things have fallen into place where I became a wedding photographer, but more importantly, I’m a photographer of Love and all that is involved. My focus in each photograph was that it could speak to the energy, color, and personality that it tried to embody on a digital sensor and be able to bring a memory back to life.
I toss around the word “love” on this blog when describing photos, but when it comes to Love, true sacrificial Love, it can only be applied in what I can only call, a meeting of extraordinary circumstances, and that’s what a wedding is. A wedding is extraordinary. Though the minutes are planned and the details were carefully selected, Love isn’t planned. Love involves to some extent, good timing and luck and chemistry. In partaking in weddings, and also being in a relationship for the first time, and watching myself grow in my relationship with my parents, this concept of Love became more real. Love is meaningless if it does not manifest itself in the human experience. Love… is the reason why Shang Chen Photography was born. I want to create photographs that speak honestly, photographs that sing of the beauty of humanity, photographs that talk for ages like a best friend who picks up right where I’ve dropped off.
2009 was a year of many challenges, lessons, growth, and changes – every minute of which I’ve loved, embraced, and made my own. I’ve set my goals, dreams, and ambitions for 2010, and some are already under way. Thank you again to everyone who has been amazing so far, I could not have done it without any of you.
