Ada and Qizhi, Married! | Boston Wedding Photographer

Well, I am beyond excited to be presenting another wedding on this website! I still have several more photoshoots to show you all from the queue, but this rainy weekend I have no casework, I’m focusing JUST on photography and business school apps! Ada and Qizhi had already previously had a formal wedding in China, but they wanted to throw an awesome wedding for their friends in the U.S. as well. The wedding was held at the uber-modern Hilton in Woburn, MA. I love how all the colors worked their way through the wedding and the portraits.

Some details and getting read… I placed the rings against one of the colorful pillows in the lobby. Thanks to my friend Sam Lipoff for lending me a couple of his lenses and his D700 for this weekend (my second camera is coming in about a week). The rings were shot using a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens

Other shots I usually try to get during a ceremony is the groom watching his bride come down, and the father clasping their hands together

Christina - I LOVE this shoot, Shang! I mean, I love all your shoots, haha, but this one is just so colorful and modern and BEAUTIFUL! I also really like the watermark!

Sam - Thanks for the shoutout Shang! I’m happy to lend you lenses any time. And I love the pictures, especially the rings and the creative use of the pool as a setting.

I’ve got to say though that I don’t like the watermarks. I don’t steal pictures, and I don’t condone doing so, but I would be more flattered than upset if someone stole mine, and unless its really (not just maybe) costing me money, I wouldn’t waste time worrying about it or mar my pictures with extraneous markings. Just my opinion, of course. =)

Shang - Hi Sam! I see your viewpoint, and if no one were paying for my photographs, I would be less concerned about “stealing”. However, my greatest concern is when people who did not pay for the photographs lift these images without proper crediting. The ones who have the most right to display the images without a watermark would be the bride + groom – who hired me, and get a CD of the unmarked images. Otherwise, guests, vendors, and outside people, should especially get in contact with me if they want to display the photos properly and in line with copyright laws.

Serena - Hey Shang,

This is a really beautiful shoot, but I really don’t like the new watermarks. They really distract and detract from your images, particularly because of the white box and red lettering. I would suggest something that just has text “(c) Shang Chen 2009″ in semi-transparent lettering overlaid onto a creative part of the image. Keep it up! :)

Shang - Thanks Serena! Yeah, it does look a little big now that I think about it. I’ll tweak it for the next post

Alex - I love these, Shang! So colorful and bright! The pool picture is great with the turquoise contrasting with the yellow. Great dOf, too. Nice work!
