There are some days when as I pull together a wedding, I realize just how lucky and blessed I am to be doing this for now. Rebecca and Naimish’s wedding was so fun (you can check out their engagement photos at MIT here)! I’ve never met a more cool bride than Rebecca, she is spunky, funny, and full of energy. Naimish is a calming and wise force, and I am so happy to see them together. They had a traditional Indian Hindu ceremony in the morning, followed by an American ceremony and reception in the evening, so I’m splitting it into two posts because there is just so much to cover! Who doesn’t love an Indian wedding? The color!!!!!
One of the first things I saw upon arriving at the OceanCliff resort in Newport, Rhode Island, was their ceremony with the mandap. It’s so colorful!

Several people were on hand to help the ladies into their saris
This is the back of one of the bridesmaids’ sari. Tracy picked it out herself. It’s so gorgeous!
Rebecca’s mother helped with her makeup
Some more blue details – Kelly, a bridesmaid, has a gorgeous tie in the back of her sari. The shoes belong to Rebecca’s mother
Getting Rebecca into her wedding sari took quite some time =)

Great shot captured by my second shooter, Tammy!
Rebecca chose a modern design for her henna. This is one of my favorite things to photograph in an Indian wedding
Meanwhile Naimish chills with his friends in the restaurant
Then it was time for the barat, where the groom comes to greet the bride’s parents on a white horse! There is a lot of dancing and lively drumming

Amit, the drummer, said that he rarely got a photo of himself at a wedding, so here’s one for you!
It’s so awesome seeing everyone really get into the dancing!

Tammy captured this gorgeous photo of Rebecca watching everything from an upstairs window
The bride’s parents greet the groom with sweets

During the ceremony, Naimish’s sister and niece walk down the aisle

Rebecca and her brother walked down with their grandmother

A Hindu wedding ceremony is rich with many rituals, each with their own purpose and meaning. I really appreciated the fact that the priests and the programs explained everything

At the end they asked all married couples to participate by having the husbands place their hands over their wives’ hearts. I thought it was really sweet
Just a couple more of the gorgeous Rebecca!

Then we had a delicious Indian lunch buffet catered by Mela – one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Boston! (great shot, Tammy!)
Stay tuned for part 2!
