I didn't do the dash at Filene's Basement, but I did buy a dress on impulse and ended up having second thoughts & canceling the order. So, my advice would be to be sure the dress is "the one", and not just buy because it's a good deal! (I did find a dress I loved in the end!) :) Congrats on your award Shang! I had a good idea of what designer I wanted (Pronovias), tried on a couple of their dresses at a local boutique, and then made an appointment in NYC to see the whole collection. It was great to go in and know that the most expensive dress was $3000 and most were not that much. I truly fell in love with my dress and the sales woman was amazing, helpful, good at negotiating between me-mom-friends, and absolutely not pressuring me. The dress I picked was 1/3 my budget, and we got a discount for buying the same day. We all even went to Kleinfeld's to check out the other options, which did not come close, before calling in the order. I could not imagine my mom being able to help me pick while standing in the middle of Hynes convention center. My cousin and I went after work, so it was pretty empty but there were still a ton of dresses to choose from (I even saw a Vera Wang left, but it was long-sleeved). So if you are on the fence about going, at least go after work or during your lunch hour because it's the only time when you can try on any dress freely without a consultant hovering over your shoulder. I got my dress at the Running of the Brides in DC and I had so much fun!
